Sustainability

There are many holes in the floral industry when it comes to sustainability, some easier to navigate than others. Here we would like to give an honest & transparent overview of how as a business we are taking steps to improve our environmental impact, which of course is an ever-unfurling journey and something we continue to work on each day.

We are proud to voice that from day one of business, Thistle by Nature has been part of the #nofloralfoam movement, designing without the use of the toxic micro-plastic floral foam, but instead with sustainable practices & mechanics.

We work really hard to minimize our plastic use, where we can we reuse plastic used in creating larger scale installations, all smaller items are always wrapped with plastic free materials.

We also take steps to minimise our waste by composting green waste, recycling packaging & drying excess or waste flowers/botanicals to be used again in both further floral design work & crafts.

We also do not work with any floral materials that have been dyed, bleached or otherwise chemically treated that could be harmful to the people who handle them and the land where they are eventually disposed.

Supply chain wise, we have brilliant relationships with both the Dutch wholesalers and with local growers from all corners of the Cotswolds where our studio is based, as well as specialist growers & suppliers from further afield across the UK. Every year our imported to British grown ratio tips closer towards using entirely UK grown product, we hope to one day get to a point where we can create with 100% British grown year round.

British flowers

We are absolutely in love with designing with British flowers and are huge advocates of the movement, not only for their environmental & economic benefits, but the feeling they evoke & aesthetic they give.

It is our guarantee that if your wedding, event or any other service with us falls within the English growing season, alongside produce of the incredible Dutch floriculture industry, there will be ample UK grown stems passing through our doors and in front of your eyes.

If you are interested in delving deeper into the sustainability of your wedding or event, we are completely open & excited to discuss how we could push further to deliver your floral service with the utmost consideration for the planet.
